Italy Part 2. Rome – Sunday

I’ve had to stat a new chapter here because I seem to be doing something wrong and can’t get stuff to load. No sure if I have overloaded the site or what. So I’m trying g this way.

After visiting Villa d Este and I’m not sure if you have seen the pictures of it but it seems to be working on my iPad but not on Keith’s we went to visit Hadrians Villa. These two Villas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Hadrians Villa is ruins and archaeological remains built around AD120 by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. It is he most imposing and complex Roman Villa known. We actually sat this one out. It was so hot and as we entered the area and I saw there was yet another hill to negotiate I dug my heels in and said no. So we sat in the shade until they returned. The photos look lovely tho so I’m a bit sorry I did t make the effort.

MONDAY – At last we visit the Vatican

Today we visited the Vatican Museum with a wealth of artistic treasures and then onto the spectacular Sistine Chapel. I don’t think I need to write too much about this it was amazing. However that said so to were the crowds. So many people queues stretching for ever just waiting to get in and fortunately we did not have to wait long as tickets were pre purchased. Inside the place was so crowded you really couldn’t see much and I didn’t realise when we had actually reached the Sistine Chapel that we were actually there so I actually got a couple of photos of the ceiling which is not allowed. We were packed in like sardines and couldn’t see a thing other than the ceiling. I suspect this is where I probably got COVID from.

The queue to get in

Amazing art
Out a window
Waiting for me to catch up

Couldn’t get close enough to read who this was
All these photos were of ceilings in various room/Chapels on the way to the Sistine Chapel
Several little alcoves on the way into the chapel
The last alcove before the Sistine Chapel
A bit inside the Chapel
A forbidden shot of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling
The crowds shuffling out of St Peter’s Basilica. They Shuffled in one door and out the other. We decided not to join them
Our reward at the end of the tour
